Alexey Kim Video Portfolio

My video work centers on long-form conversations and the challenge of making them legible, compelling, and worth staying with. I produce, direct, and edit interviews and documentary-driven projects, then distill them into short-form pieces designed for digital platforms without flattening nuance or intent. Whether working independently or with brands and teams, I focus on identifying the moments where an idea crystallizes, shaping video that prioritizes clarity, context, and resonance over empty clicks.

Oribe

I was commissioned to produce and direct a video series for Oribe in celebration of Black History Month. Each piece was built from long-form stylist interviews and hair tutorials, originally recorded as 30–60 minute sessions. My role was to identify the most meaningful soundbites and shape them into concise narratives, resulting in finished videos ranging from 60 to 90 seconds.

As producer, I assembled and managed the technical team, including grip, lighting, steadicam, and sound. On set, I directed talent, guided interviews, and operated the moving camera to capture b-roll and transitional moments. In post-production, I handled music scouting, editorial structure, cutting, formatting, and final exports, delivering versions optimized for both widescreen YouTube and vertical platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. Color correction and audio cleanup were completed in collaboration with external specialists.

Hair Styling Tutorials

I was commissioned to produce and direct a series of Get Ready With Me videos for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) for their Instagram channel. The project involved following and interviewing notable figures in real time, shaping intimate, narrative-driven portraits designed for short-form viewing. I handled direction and all post-production, delivering finished pieces optimized for social platforms. Featured subjects include American actress Judith Light, Mexican singer-songwriter Majo Aguilar, and designer Imam Nardos.

Personal Work

In early 2025. I launched Killas Confessions, a short-form documentary series focused on LGBTQIA+ community leaders, artists, and organizers, and the personal experiences that define their work. Each episode follows a “day in a life“ structure, accompanying participants during moments of personal significance while allowing the narrative to unfold organically. Across its first six episodes the series explores themes of gender transition, immigration, chosen family, activism, and community care. I conceived, produced, directed, filmed, and edited the series independently. The project ended up accumulating over 700,000 views on Instagram alone and generated sustained engagement and dialogue as audiences related their own experiences, reflections, and responses to the stories being told.
